I actually went sailing!

Avid readers (are there any?) of this blog will have noticed that I have not actually gone sailing since I started writing last fall. Well, yesterday I finally hooked up the new trailer to the car:
And went over to Lake Massapoag:
I launched the boat from the boat ramp in the photo above. The wind was a shifty and variable northeasterly. While I was rigging, the local high school sailing coach Bob showed up. He had noticed my sail and decided to see who the crazy sailor was. He invited me to come along to the Thursday night Laser racing and also the Sunday handicap racing. So now I can race on a lake within 10 minutes of my house.

Oh, and here is a photo of the LiveSailDie sticker on the back of my trailer for OG.

Glad you got a chance to finally use the boat. How's the time off? Work is the usual... but I've only got a few more months myself.

Take it easy.

Was it as much fun as you remembered it to be?

Yes Bonnie, it was a ton of fun. The high school team was doing tack on the whistle drills and I followed the 420's up the beat tacking on the whistle too. The HS sailors were not trimming their mainsails tight enough and weren't pointing very high, so as I was passing the group of 420's, Bob (the coach) yelled at his sailors..."That Laser is out-pointing all of you...come on guys!"

Congratulations!
I also sailed a sunfish recently. I went to Buzzards Bay. I prefer the more constant sea breeze (though yesterday it was a shore wind).
Massapoag is a great lake for sailing. I hope you'll enjoy the races!
